Don't Need a Weatherman

So then I get to thinking about the quote at the front of Loneseome Dove that goes:

“Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream.” —T.K. Whipple

And then after thinking about that I wonder if I’m the victim of the romanticizing of the west (especially now that I’m inclined to read westerns like some people read romances). But then I wonder, on the other hand, if there really is something inside me that, growing up in New England, missed out on country-western and cowboys and indians and wide-open spaces until my late-twenties and is suddenly now awake for the first time…

And then after all that thinking I get to looking like that guy, so I quit.
