Full Moon in Virgo on Saturday.
“The full moon of March was most commonly known by both Europeans and North American pioneers as either the ‘Crow’ Moon or ‘Worm’ Moon. Crows change their songs from a ‘winter’ cycle of notes to a spring cycle under this moon. The earth has also usually thawed enough to allow earthworms to begin their slow migration up towards the topsoil. There are many other names for this moon as well. The equinox often produces large storms during this time of year and several cultures make note of that. Mideval Frenchmen knew this moon as the ‘Lune des Vents’ (the moon of winds) and ‘Wind Moon’ was also used by both the Cherokee and Hopi tribes. Druid Celts dubbed this moon the ‘Chaste’ moon. Many Native American tribes used names for this moon that reflected the sense of renewal and rebirth this time of year brings. For the Shawnee, it was the ‘Sap Moon;’ for the Tewa Pueblo peoples, it was the ‘Moon when the Leaves Break Forth.’ The Arapaho and the Sioux knew it as the ‘Moon when Buffalo Cows drop their Calves.’ My favorite name for this moon comes from the Haida, who dubbed it the ‘Noisy Goose Moon.’” (via)
